There are six-figure points bonuses up for grabs from leading credit card companies for Qantas frequent flyer members this month. These sign-up bonuses may be enough to cover the cost of flights domestically and internationally.

Many travelers adopt a popular approach of applying for credit cards to take advantage of their sign-up bonus points, which may help cover the expenses of their flights. This practice, often referred to as "points chasing" or "points hacking," involves accumulating bonus Qantas frequent flyer points through credit card offers.

This month, the RateCity database shows 18 credit cards offering bulk Qantas frequent flyer points on sign up, ranging from 20,000 points to 150,000 points.

In May, the bonus points on offer from some credit cards could get you across Australia, or take you internationally to countries like Indonesia, New Zealand or the US.

Please note that there is more to a credit card than the points bonus on offer, and this strategy will not suit everyone. You will still need to meet any eligibility criteria set by the card issuer to qualify for approval and pay any upfront or ongoing costs. Consider reading the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) before signing up.

Let’s explore Qantas frequent flyer credit cards with bulk sum bonus points on sign up this May.

What to know when comparing frequent flyer credit cards

When comparing frequent flyer credit cards, it's crucial to look beyond the enticing perks and rewards and consider key factors like interest rates and fees. Not doing your due diligence may have a significant impact on the overall cost of your purchases, regardless of the free flights you earn.

It's worthwhile to invest time carefully comparing your options to identify the credit card that best suits your financial needs and budget. After all, the last thing you want is to accumulate substantial debt solely for the sake of a holiday.

In addition to rates and fees, be sure to carefully compare any complimentary travel insurances offered by different card providers. While a credit card with a smaller points bonus may seem less appealing, it could prove to be a better fit for your finances if it offers complimentary domestic or international travel insurance, medical coverage, rental car insurance, and more. Evaluating these insurance benefits can provide you with added peace of mind and potentially save you significant expenses from unforeseen circumstances during your travels.

By carefully comparing these card factors, you can make a more informed decision when selecting a frequent flyer credit card that not only offers bulk points on sign up, but suits your financial goals, minimises costs, and enhances your overall travel experience.
