Major shake-up to Qantas Frequent Flyer points
Good news for Aussies planning their next holiday; the number of points Qantas Frequent Flyer members will need to spend on hotels, flights and holidays has been slashed significantly.
Qantas has revealed that its members can now enjoy increase value-per-point spent. A permanent change to the program will now see:
- 30% less points used for Qantas Hotels, and
- 45% less points used for Qantas Holidays when booked through Points Plus Play.
Qantas is also offering a limited time offer of 20% off Points Plus Pay flights (until 30 April 2022).
In an interview with Sunrise, Qantas Frequent Flyer CEO, Olivia Wirth, said: “The move to permanently reduce the points required to book hotels and holiday packages gives customers more opportunities to spend their points without necessarily flying anywhere."
“This is great news for our members. We have permanently changed the number of points required to book your holiday away,” she said.
“This is about really giving our members an opportunity to use those points they’ve been earning over the last couple of years to get away on a family holiday,” Ms Wirth said.
This is significant news to the 13 million Qantas Frequent Flyer members who may be considering booking travel following almost two years of Covid-related restrictions and lockdowns.
The leading Australian airline is partnered with 440,000 domestic and international hotels, including the Sheraton Grand in Sydney, the Shangri-La Hotel in Cairns, and the Moana Surfrider in Hawaii.
Where to earn Qantas Frequent Flyer Points
For credit cardholders, the incentive to earn Qantas points may be greater, thanks to this news.
According to the RateCity database, there are 17 card issuers that have partnered with Qantas to offer 35 frequent flyer points-earning credit cards to its customers.
Some credit cards also may offer competitive points bonuses on sign-up to boost your points budget for your holiday. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that there is more to a credit card than the rewards points offered, and you can also compare interest rates, fees and other perks to ensure you’re getting the best option for your financial needs and goals.
In February, the credit cards offering the biggest sign-up bonus points for Qantas members include:
- 150,000 points - Qantas Money Premier Titanium
- 130,000 points – ANZ Frequent Flyer Black
- 120,000 - Westpac Altitude Black
- 110,000 – NAB Qantas Rewards Signature
