Can I transfer my Amex Membership Rewards points to Qantas?
If you enjoy travelling, you can choose to turn your American Express Membership Rewards points into Qantas points to pay for your next vacation.
However, to transfer your Amex points to Qantas, you need to be an Ascent Premium member. Thus, you need to hold an American Express Platinum Card or an American Express Business Platinum Card to access this benefit.
If you decide to transfer your Amex points to Qantas, you’ll need to transfer a minimum of 2000 points in one go. At the time of writing, 1 Membership Rewards Point is equal to 0.5 Qantas Frequent Flyer points. However, Qantas regularly runs bonus transfer offers to give you better exchange value for your Amex Membership Rewards points. In the past, promotions have offered up to 25 per cent more Qantas points on credit card points transferred from Amex.
How do I transfer American Express points to Qantas?
You can call the number on the back of your card to get help for your points transfer, or do it yourself in three simple steps:
- Link your Qantas Frequent Flyer account to your American Express Membership Rewards program account.
- Select the amount to transfer. Note that you need to transfer a minimum of 2000 points per transaction. You also cannot cancel the transaction or ask for the transferred points to be returned to your Membership Rewards program account.
- Once the points have been transferred, log in to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account and redeem them on flights, hotels, and more.
Is it worth transferring my Amex points to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program?
There may be benefits to transferring your Amex points to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, but it may not be the right choice for you. If you frequently fly with Qantas or its network partners, transferring your Amex points to Qantas may help you save money on flights or other travel deals.
However, it’s worth checking other airline programs (such as Cathay Pacific Asia Miles) that may offer cheaper redemptions than Qantas. That being said, having additional Qantas points may be helpful in certain situations, such as when you want to upgrade an existing flight reservation with Qantas.
Another benefit of Qantas points is that they can be used for Jetstar flights. If you regularly fly domestically or need to fly on one of the routes exclusive to Jetstar, this may be a benefit you find useful. However, if you don’t have any specific flights in mind, you may find your points are more flexible as Amex Membership Rewards points.
It's worth noting that you may not be able to transfer money from your American Express credit card to your bank account.
